ABOUT THIS PROCCESS

What is a CFDC Recommendation?

A CFDC Recommendation is a formal expression of the Committee's support for a candidate's fitness for office. It is based on a structured evaluation of publicly stated positions, record in office where applicable, and alignment with Democratic values. Candidates who receive a recommendation can expect a basic level of support from the committee.

Recommendations will be given after the completion of the Recommendation Process. Candidates can either apply themselves or be nominated by at least two active members of CFDC. After application, candidates will be evaluated using a standardized rubric, and then receive a recommendation based on score and/or committee vote using the process described below.

SCORING

The Evaluation Rubric.

Each of the 10 categories is scored 0–3. Scores are assigned by the Select Committee, with the option for member objections/edits. Incumbents who are scored will be ranked with their record in office prioritized over their public statements.

0 - No answer / opposes

Did not answer, gave a non-answer, or actively opposes the committee's position. For incumbents: stated platform directly contradicts their own actions on Council.

1 - Vague / weak

Acknowledges the issue but offers only generalities, platitudes, or hedged language with no specific commitments.

2 - Solid / Partial

Solid position with at least some specificity. Engages with the right questions but may not address all dimensions of the issue.

3- Strong / specific

Specific, well-reasoned, and fully aligned with committee expectations. Demonstrates command of the issue and names concrete actions.

Recommendation Thresholds

25 or above

Recommendation issued automatically unless 2 of 5 Select Committee members file a written objection within the review window.

15 - 24

Recommendation issued upon a unanimous Select Committee vote. If not unanimous, the matter goes to a full membership vote at a special meeting.

14 or below

Requires a unanimous Select Committee vote AND a majority vote of the full membership at a special meeting. Both conditions must be met.
